In Oryol region patients remained without free drugs

The Government of the Oryol region acknowledged the shortage of medicines for patients eligible to receive free drugs, "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports.

The issue was raised at a meeting in the regional administration. Officials acknowledged that recently the authorities were literally flooded by complaints from diabetes patients eligible to free medicines. They cannot get medicines they are eligible by law. It should be mentioned that near the city of Oryol one of the largest manufacturers of insulin is located.
According to regional health department, about two thousands of so-called "delayed" prescriptions of federal and regional benefit recipients are in queue. The regional government is trying to establish the cause of the deficit and solve the problem. Head of the region Vadim Potomsky took the situation under personal control. The first steps have already been taken.
"To remove social tensions and provide medicines by delayed prescriptions, 28 price quotations have already been placed amounted to 8.9 million rubles," the Governor's Press Service reported. "In addition, auctions are announced for the purchase of the most popular medicines: insulin, drugs for treatment of asthma, cancer, cardiovascular and other diseases."
By the way, several employees of the regional Department of Health were fired for "failures to fulfill duties".
According to the Oryol government, 64,659 people have the right to receive compensated drugs in the region.
